River Market’s Quay Coffee Opens at Nelson-Atkins Museum

Kansas City, MO. Dec. 18, 2017–Quay Coffee, a coffee shop which debuted in Kansas City’s River Market in June 2012, has opened a second location at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Located on the Plaza level of the Bloch Building, the shop will offer hot drinks as well as pastries.

“The Nelson-Atkins is delighted to host Quay Coffee at the celebrated Bloch Building,” said Julián Zugazagoitia, Menefee D. and Mary Louise Blackwell CEO & Director of the Nelson-Atkins. “I look forward to enjoying coffee in the proximity of incredible art works.”

At the Nelson-Atkins, Quay Coffee is located at the north end of the Bloch Building. Customers can park in the museum garage or in the lot directly across 45th Street.

A quay (pronounced “key”) is a dock or harbor on a moving body of water. The River Market was at one time called The River Quay, and the coffee shop took its name from that.

“Quay Coffee is a multi-roaster, which means we sample coffees roasted by companies across the country,” said Cory Stipp, owner. “We choose the coffees we’re excited about, so we always have a variety of unique offerings.”

Quay Coffee has served coffee from roasters in Seattle, San Diego, Denver, Tulsa, Minneapolis, Chicago, Vancouver, and, of course, Kansas City. Syrups and spice mixes are made in-house. The menu will include coffee, tea, cocoa, breakfast burritos and pastries. Quay Coffee at the Nelson-Atkins will be open Wed–Sun, 8 am to 5 pm, with a discount for museum members.
