The Creativity Studio

Touch. Create. Get inspired.

The Creativity Studio is a new interactive space for all visitors of all ages to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Taking a cue from the materials, techniques, and artistry in the objects on view in Weaving Splendor: Treasures of Asian Textiles, the Creativity Studio is a place to experiment with textile processes.

Find inspiration to design your own garment, weave on a six-foot-tall loom, embroider around a table big enough for your friends and family to join, and watch process videos that offer glimpses into the creative practices of artists around the world.

Organized by The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Katabira (Summer Robe) (detail), Japanese, Edo period (1603-1867), late 1700s to early 1800s. Bast fiber (asa), dyed with indigo, embroidered with silk and gold, 62 × 48 1/4 inches. Purchase: William Rockhill Nelson Trust, 31-142/17.
